Dr. Daniel Fesenmaier

Dr. Daniel Fesenmaier is Program Director, Tourism and Hospitality Management Program, Temple University and Director of the National Laboratory for Tourism & eCommerce. He is also is Professor, Dept. of Management Information Systems, a Cochran Fellow and a Senior Research Fellow with the Research Roundtable in the Fox School of Business. Dr. Fesenmaier received his Ph.D. in geography from the University of Western Ontario in London, Canada. He has taught at the University of Oklahoma, Texas A&M University, Indiana University and the University of Illinois before coming to Temple University.
Dr. Fesenmaier has conducted many research projects related to destination marketing and is author of over 200 articles dealing with travel behavior, tourism marketing and the development of marketing information systems for destination marketing organizations. He has co-authored a number of monographs including Assessing and Developing Tourism Resources and Searching for the Future: Technology and Change in Destination Marketing, co-edited several books including Travel Destination Recommendation Systems: Behavioral Foundations and Applications, co-founding editor of Tourism Analysis. Currently, he is Managing Editor, Journal of Information Technology & Tourism.

Search Engine Marketing: Five Steps to Success
Search engines have become one of the primary sources for travelers finding tourist information online and for purchasing tourism products. As a result, search engine marketing (SEM) has become one of the primary tools that destination marketing organizations have used to communicate with existing and potential visitors This talk provides a basic overview of search engine marketing and then outlines five steps to marketing destinations online.
